Dear Society,

You’ve been by our side since the day we were born. Did we ever stand a chance, or was it always going to play out like this? 

Where you judge us for our choices, and we try to escape your chokehold. You created this role in each of our lives that is hard to see past. You’re immortal, able to recall lifetimes of memories, while each of ours is connected to you. Every single one... it’s not fair. We continue to look for a place where you’ve yet to stake your claim.

Since you love hearing yourself speak, shall we go down memory lane?

You preached to us that it was disgraceful…

to crave a woman’s lips no matter how sweet they taste

or enjoy the touch of another man’s flesh against my own

to bear a child or share the same roof before both uttering the words ‘I do’

to be with someone who doesn’t share the same beliefs as you

...when we’re unable to see anything wrong with it.

We’ve found happiness within these so-called sins; now we are cleansing ourselves of your toxic beliefs. Hopefully, there will also be a safe space for us to live free of you soon.
